Polymers and membranes.

Using responsive polymers and precise measurements to study soft materials and biological membranes.

Polymers can organise into nanoparticles, interact with lipids and help us access difficult membrane systems. We use this versatility to ask how molecular structure and environment control assembly, exchange and function.

01

How do small changes in polymer chemistry alter nanoparticle self-assembly?

02

Can responsive polymers help control the formation and reassembly of lipid nanodiscs?

03

How do membrane composition and architecture affect membrane protein measurements?

Making the connection

The work combines controlled polymer synthesis with light scattering, spectroscopy, separation methods and membrane-sensitive measurements. Collaborations across AIME connect polymer chemistry with membrane biology and biophysics.
